The Wedding Photography Timeline

What’s the Right Amount of Wedding Photography Coverage?

Let’s figure it out together!

This is one of the most common questions I get — and the good news is, we’ll talk through it together so you feel completely confident in your choice. Every wedding day looks a little different, and your photography coverage should reflect what matters most to you.

PSA: your photos are what you’ll have after everything is over — the laughter, the tears, the people, the details. Years from now, they’ll be what takes you right back to this day. Choosing the right amount of coverage makes sure those memories are documented fully and beautifully.

In general, here’s how I like to break it down:

✨ 11 Hours — The Full Story
This amount of coverage truly captures it all — from your beautiful details and getting ready moments to the final dance of the night. It’s perfect for couples who want every part of the day documented naturally and fully. Once we build your custom timeline, we can always adjust things to make sure every moment that matters most is covered.

💛 9 Hours — The Sweet Spot
In my opinion, nine hours is the perfect balance. It allows time for the tail end of getting ready, portraits, ceremony, and all the key reception moments. Just keep in mind — if your celebration involves travel between locations, we’ll want to look at how that affects the flow of your day.

🤍 7 Hours — Short and Sweet
Seven hours goes by fast, but it can be a great fit for couples who prefer less getting ready coverage and want to focus on the big moments — the ceremony, portraits, and the most meaningful parts of the reception like entrances and dances.

Sample Photo Timeline
Below is a sample photo timeline to give you an idea of how a wedding day might flow depending on coverage. This one is completely hypothetical — every couple’s day looks different!

Keep in mind, this timeline is photography-based, meaning it’s what my second photographer and I use to stay organized and make sure we capture everything that’s important to you. It doesn’t replace the detailed timeline you’ll create with your planner, DJ or band, or venue — though there’s usually a lot of overlap between them.

Side note: You won’t need to create one of these yourself, but it’s a great reference for ideas and things to think about as your day comes together.
